2001 Silverbullit - Citizen Bird
Justin K. Broadrick. Need I say more? Probably. Godflesh, Jesu, Head of David, Fall of Because or Techno Animal? No? None of those either… Ok, Napalm Death. Justin was one of the early members and played guitar on the first side of the debut album Scum.
Final is a solo project that has always been on hand alongside everything else. Since he was 13 years old. Final's first release saw the light of day back in the mid-1980s and since then around 50 cassettes, vinyls and CDs have been released. Three of these in 2022, two of them are albums and one of these is therefore my choice for album of the year 2022.
It is rare for Justin to offer traditional song structures and It Comes to Us All is no exception. At least as much noise as, let's compare it to Godflesh, and on a first listen completely lacking rhythm (completely unlike Godflesh).
What so often makes Broadrick's compositions worth a second and twentieth listen is that each time a new dimension emerges in the soundscape. We get to use expressions that in themselves may seem "artsy", but I don't know how else to phrase myself. It Comes to Us All contains eight tracks, each untitled. Songs that follow each other like waves of different size and power, but which all wash over the listener without being able to defend themselves and once the soundscapes have penetrated under the skin, it is up to each person to handle it. Or not. Final is definitely not an upper and it is not recommended to intake this music completely unprepared.
